Phil Hellmuth Phillip J. Hellmuth, Jr. (born July 16, 1964 in Wisconsin) Hellmuth
attended the University of Wisconsin for three years before dropping
out to Hellmuth won the World Series of Poker main event beating Johnny Chan who was making his third final table and competing to make it an unpresedent three Main event titles in a row, becoming the youngest World Champion of Poker at 24 years old (it has since been beaten). As of 2007 he has won 11 WSOP bracelets. Hellmuth is also the season three champion of Late Night Poker, the first time he ever won a tournament in Europe. In 2005 Hellmuth won the Inaugural National Heads- Up Poker Championship. He defeated Chris "Jesus" Ferguson in three games. He was stunned when Ferguson won game 2 and shook his hand and walked out of the room. He stated to the camera "He had threes, how lucky can you get?" In addition to his poker playing, he is also the author of many articles for Card Player Magazine and poker books, including Play Poker like the Pros, Bad Beats and Lucky Draws, and The Greatest Poker Hands ever Played. He has made several instructional poker videos, including Phil Hellmuth's Million Dollar Poker Secrets. Hellmuth is also a spokesperson for (and player at) Ultimate Bet, an online poker room. Hellmuth currently resides in Palo Alto, California with his wife Kathy and two children. Hellmuth is one of the most recognizable figures in poker and many fans have strong opinions of him, both negative and positive. While his eleven WSOP bracelets bring him much recognition, his notoriety is likely more due to his perceived inability to handle adversity and accept defeat gracefully. "I guess if luck wasn't involved I'd win every one" and "I've revolutionized the way to play Texas Holdem" are examples of notable televised boasts made while unhappily storming away from poker tournament tables after being eliminated. While some fellow pros consider his antics distasteful and abrasive, they respect his talent for the game. No matter what Hellmuth accomplishes in the game, the moniker from his book "Poker Brat" may be his lasting legacy . On June 2007 Phil Hellmuth won his 11th World Series Of Poker Braclet, Passing Poker Legends Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan who are currently both on 10 bracelets each.
