Betfair Poker - Place Your BetPlace Your Bet

Texas Holdem, is one of the most popular card games in the world, and the leading source of revenue for UK Poker sites, is just one in a vast collection of variations on the Poker game.
The main event at both the World Series of Poker and the World Series of Poker Europe, Texas Hold em fame was inflated by Hollywood. "Rounders"; a film about the underground world of poker starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, featured the form as the first choice of play for its leading characters.
Perhaps Texas Holdem is so popular due to its simple rules and easy game play; however, learning the rules of other forms of poker will not only shake up the time you spend gaming, but will increase your all round skill and ability to participate, impress and most importantly, win.

Poker Place, offers an extensive library of tips, tricks and information for all things Poker. In an attempt to widen the horizons and strengthen the skills of the leagues of Texas Hold em devotees, they offer in depth descriptions and walkthroughs of a number of other very viable Poker playing options.

Coming in a close second in the race towards most popular Poker game is Omaha. Increasingly popular, particularly on online Poker portal, Betfair poker and in the professional circuit, Omaha is as Texas, a form of Hold em poker. Often described as a slightly modified yet more complicated version of Hold em, it is an inevitable progression for anybody who has mastered Texas Hold em and wants to further their knowledge and skills. Beginning the game with four cards rather than two, creating a straight or a flush becomes considerably more difficult than it is in Texas. Where in Texas Hold'em, a pair may still leave you in with a chance; the challenge in Omaha is increased by the possibility of a pair used as a winning hand obliterated.

The complications of Omaha are further increased by the existence of two possible winning hands; a high and a low. Subsequently, unless you desire to win only half the pot of money, you need to show both the highest and the lowest hand. Poker portal, Poker Place offers a clear and in-depth guide to the rules of Omaha Poker.

Stud Poker refers to a number of poker variants where player's hands consist of a mix of face up and face down cards, typically either five or seven cards, as a result the dynamics of the game compared to a blind game are considerably changed. The player entitled to make the first bet tends to be the one whose face up cards form the best hand.
Stud Poker includes the addition of ‘wild cards' to the game, and as in Omaha the winning pot is often split between the highest and the lowest hand. Another common variation however is to have the winning hand as the lowest combination of cards. Stud poker is as Omaha, similarly suited to the more advanced Poker player seeking to add more varied dynamics to their betting game play.

Variants of Poker named Draw Poker involve all players being dealt a complete hand at the beginning of the game. Developing the hand is done through a process of replacing and aptly, drawing cards. Five card Draw is frequently the first Poker variant learnt by newbie players, and is most commonly played in the home and less so upon UK Poker sites, in tournaments and in casinos.

The process of drawing and replacing cards involves players choosing, upon their turn, how many and which of their cards they wish to replace. After every player has discarded his or her chosen cards, the dealer hands out replacement cards from the ‘stub'.

Less suited to the professionals, the Draw Poker  variant is most suited to the casual player, or one whom is new to Poker, due to its very easy to follow rules.

All variations of Poker tend to be distinguished from most other forms of gambling due to the choice a player has in whether or not they choose to place a bet. The option to fold (to put your cards on the table and cease playing for the duration of that game) instils the player with the chance to refrain from losing more money when they deem the odds of winning as being against them. In most other senses however, the rules and regulations of each poker game can vary widely, and finding the right game for you (whether that means the game you enjoy to play most or the one you are most skilled at) can be a tricky choice requiring research and a lot of rounds with your cards on the table.
